Travertine is formed by the precipitation of minerals from a hot spring or in a limestone cave. Natural travertine combined with original alcohol ink and French solvent-based paints suggests this process while exploring movement and transformation.

Each piece of tesserae is unique, cut individually in the Italian manner with a hammer and hardie, imparting texture and exposing the beautiful minerals captured during formation of the stone. Some contain fragments of natural quartz crystals with the reddish, tan, and gold coloring caused by iron oxides.
